When someone taps through to your profile from a post, a comment or a search, your Instagram bio is the first thing they read. If it does not answer three questions straight away (what you do, who it is for and what to do next) they leave.
These seven fixes take about ten minutes.
1. Say what you do in plain words
Clear beats clever. "Helping you shine" could be anything. "Wedding and event florist in Leeds" is found, understood and remembered.
2. Put a keyword in your name field
The name field shows up in Instagram search. "Jo Smith | Leeds Florist" turns up when someone searches for a florist in Leeds; "Jo Smith" on its own does not.
3. Say who it is for
Name your customer. "For couples who want their flowers sorted in one meeting" pulls in the right people, and quietly puts off the wrong ones.
4. Give one reason to trust you
A number, an award, a well known client or your years in business. "300+ weddings since 2015" does more work than any adjective.
5. End with one clear action
Tell people exactly what to do next: "Message FLOWERS for 2026 dates" or "Book a free call below". One action, not three.
6. Make the link earn its place
Send people to the page that matches your call to action, not your homepage. If you use a link page, keep it to three or four options.
7. Check it on your phone
Line breaks and spacing look different on a phone, and that is where almost everyone will read it. Read it there before you call it done.

Instagram bio questions
How long can an Instagram bio be?
Up to 150 characters. That is why every word has to earn its place.
Should I use emojis?
A few can break up the text and draw the eye, but they should support the words, not replace them. A bio made of emojis tells a stranger nothing.
How often should I change it?
Whenever your offer or your call to action changes. If you are taking bookings for a new season or launching something, update the last line to match.
Once your bio is working, start sending people to it. The 20-minute daily social selling routine is a good place to begin.
